The Globetrotters are going down

Jan 25, 2006 at 4:00 am
A certain RFT scribe, who shall remain nameless, fancies himself something of a gambler. And not a middling gambler, either. Mr. N., let's call him, once bet 7,000 Deutschmarks on who would become the next pope — and there ain't nothing sweeter than ill-gotten Deutschmarks, meine freunde.

So take Mr. N's advice: The Harlem Globetrotters are due for a fall. Sure, sure, they're as acrobatic and splendiferous as ever when it comes to dribbling and substituting buckets of glitter for buckets of water. But they're playing the New York Nationals at 2 p.m. at the Savvis Center (South 14th Street and Clark Avenue; 314-241-1888), not those push-over Generals. It'll be a hard-fought game, and at the end of four quarters, it'll be the Nationals sitting pretty. Mr. N. is putting the baby's iron-lung money on it. Tickets are $13 to $113.
