The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour does not just glorify mountains — although they do figure prominently in many films — but instead explores and celebrates the outdoor and action sport lifestyles. Paragliders, spelunkers, free climbers, hikers and, yes, mountain climbers all get their due in these short films. Films that could be shown at the St. Louis stop (films rotate from city to city on the tour, so every night is an unpredictable grab bag) include "Into Darkness," which takes you deep underground into some of the world's most remote caves, "The Longest Way," which compresses one man's walk across China from Beijing to Urumqi (about 3,100 kilometers) into five minutes of time-elapsed beard growth, and "Still Motion," which is made entirely from still photos captured by motion-activated trail cameras in Alberta, Canada. The films screen at 7 p.m. at the Saint Louis Science Center OMNIMAX Theater (5050 Oakland Avenue; www.alpineshop.com). Tickets are $15.
