Taste the Difference?

Everybody wants to be organic these days -- so much so that we’ll shell out an extra three bucks for a dozen eggs if they’re emblazoned with the right labels. We know that USDA-certified organic foods are produced using sustainable practices, often by small farmers, and are free of chemicals and genetically modified organisms, but do organic foods really taste better? Tonight, the Saint Louis Science Center’s Science Café offers the answer -– and a taste test. From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. inside the Spink Pavillion at the Missouri Botanical Garden (4344 Shaw Boulevard), Brian Hale, executive chef at Monarch Restaurant, Laurie Waters of KMOV and Brett Palmier, a certified organic farmer, anchor a conversation about organic foods while visitors try to taste the difference. Admission is $20 and includes organic treats and a beverage, and there’s a cash bar available. To attend, call 314-289-4424 or visit www.slsc.org to make a reservation.
