Spirits of the Season

It's easy to think like a scrooge this holiday season, what with continued budget cuts and all of the necessary wallet watching. You just aren't feeling compelled to be as selfless with your gift giving as you have been in the past. But while fiscal responsibility is wise and love isn't expressed through material things, you should still try to keep up the generous spirit of the season. For some gift-giving inspiration, head to the Fox Theatre (527 North Grand Boulevard) for a production of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6 p.m. Sunday (December 10 through 13). The play is set in Victorian London, of course, but the message that Ebenezer Scrooge learns via the ghosts of Christmas is always relevant:'Tis better to give than to receive. Tickets to the show cost $17 to $35 through MetroTix (314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com) — you know, a pair of 'em certainly would make for a nice holiday present. Just sayin'.
