The library's where it's at!

When you think "library," words like "stuffy," "bookish" and "quiet" probably come to mind — all descriptors that don't particularly excite you. That's fair, we suppose, but what if we said that for one night only, the Central branch of the St. Louis Public Library (1301 Olive Street) was going to be festive and packed full of food, drinks, music and people? And what if we told you the bibliophilic action was going down this very evening? Does that make you want to shout from the tops of the stacks? Good. Then go ahead and Celebrate Central from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. You can sample foods from An American Place, Niche, Sidney Street Cafe, Tony's and more, and the Post's Sylvester Brown Jr., among other local celebs, serve up drinks, two of which were created especially for the occasion (as Randall Roberts revealed in his May 25 "Drink of the Week" column). And lest you forget you are actually in a library, you'll be mulling over the double D (you know, the Dewey decimal) with authors such as Harper Barnes and Kathleen Goodman — all while speaking in a very non-library voice, mind you. To learn more about this fundraiser for the library's Homework Helpers program, call 314-539-0359 or visit www.slplfoundation.org; tickets cost $55 to $100.
