Having long been the go-to band for smart hardcore punk with a mean sociopolitical streak, Rise Against's upgrade from Fat Wreck Chords to a major label did little to dampen its crusading spirit. After last summer's Siren Song of the Counter Culture continued the Chicago foursome's ongoing assailment against complacency, it appeared as Black Flag in the skater flick Lords of Dogtown and contributed a cover of that band's "Nervous Breakdown" to the soundtrack. And now that its previously released, acoustically rejiggered "Swing Life Away" has become an international radio hit, Rise Against has a trip to Australia and Europe planned for fall with the international Taste of Chaos tour. As singer Tim McIlrath taunted on the 2003 rager "Black Masks and Gasoline," "Simply because you can breathe doesn't mean you're alive or that you really live."

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $13 to $15; call 618-274-6720 for more information.
