On the Road

Mar 3, 2010 at 4:00 am
A teenage girl and an adult man drive cross-country, looking for something on the road — but what? The girl is a ball of spite, snapping at the man and his persistent interest in the beautiful scenery, which she couldn't care less about. The two continue their journey, and slowly the truth of their relationship is revealed: He's her stepfather, recently divorced from her mother, and desperate to salvage something of their past. Or maybe he's trying to save himself from the depths of middle age and a life that didn't turn out like he planned. But for her, life is just unspooling like the road under their wheels; is her resentment a sign of the path she'll take or just a temporary symptom of being a teenager? Lee Blessing's Great Falls shows two people on the cusp of something, struggling to find their way. Soundstage Too! presents Great Falls at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday (March 5 through 7) at the Marble Stage Theater in the ArtSpace at Crestwood Court (Watson and Sappington roads, Crestwood; 314-968-8070 or www.soundstageproductions.net). Tickets are $10.
