Of Montreal's latest EP is a short lesson in Kevin Barnes' well-documented musical Tourette's: Thecontrollersphere is a haphazard collection of cuts that didn't make it onto last year's False Priest. The paranoid noise dirge of "Black Lion Massacre" shows him at his moodiest — all those suicide allusions and dark images finally invade the music — and the last five minutes of "Holiday Call" are a Moroccan-spiced instrumental triumph. The most prolific artist to come out of the famed Elephant Six collective, Barnes has an intrinsic contempt for moderation and a pathological propensity for theatrics — his shows are always a fantastic spectacle, and we're curious to see how his cast of party animals will fit on the Luminary's modest stage.
