Moneymakers of Art

There is nothing wrong with wanting to use the same recipe for the perfect chocolate chip-cookies every time. Consistency is a great thing, and why mess with perfection? Mad Art Gallery's (2727 South Twelfth Street; 314-771-8230 or www.madart.com) annual Famous Fictional exhibit, which features portraits of fictional pop-culture characters, is that perfect chocolate-chip cookie recipe. For this year's installment, Famous Fictional: Payroll, inspiration is drawn from famous advertising schemes, board game characters, and sports mascots. The usual suspects contribute work in every media from printmaking and comics to woodworking, including repeat offenders include Sharlene Kindt, Ron Weaver, Jessica and Jeff Robtoy, and hopefully curator Sir Dan Zettwoch himself (anybody else covet one of his sweet Pee-wee's Big Adventure prints?). Famous Fictional: Payroll opens tonight with a free reception from 7 to 11 p.m.
