Live Theater in the Alley

Any playgoer has learned to anticipate the moment right as the house lights go down, for the emphatic shushing to turn off your cell phones and keep the chitchat down. Is it so much to act like that fourth wall is soundproof? So it’s comforting that OnSite Theatre, a local troupe that stages site-specific plays around town, has chosen perhaps the noisiest possible venue for its five-year anniversary. Three short works will be performed as part of Bowling Epiphany: The Revival!, which takes place at Epiphany Lanes (3164 Ivanhoe Avenue), the city’s last remaining Catholic bowling alley. The scattering of ten pins and the crack of some cold frosty ones makes the tittering of cell phones seem like small change. Patrons are encouraged to roll a few frames and carouse in the delightfully odd marriage of bowling, Catholicism and theater. Catch a performance at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday through June 30. Tickets are $25 ($40 for a special engagement on June 21), and more information can be found at www.onsitetheatre.org or by calling 314-686-0062.
Fridays, Saturdays. Starts: June 16. Continues through June 30, 2012
