Into the Vallely of Death

Skateboarding is perceived as a young man's game, but there's still a horde of gnarly old dogs out there barging their way through the parks and streets around the world. Mike Vallely has rounded up some of the gnarliest of the gnarled for his Glory Bound Skatepark Tour, which hits Ramp Riders (2324 Salena Street; 314-776-4025 or www.rampriders.net) from 4 to 10 p.m. today. Duane Peters is so old school that he was young Tony Hawk's idol; he earned his sobriquet, "The Master of Disaster," the hard way, risking life and limb on half pipes with a recklessness that laid the template for hardcore skating. Bill "The Nomad" Danforth is a kindred spirit in the street-skating arena, a caveman-style hesher who either destroys or is destroyed. Mike V. himself is also as pugnacious and hard-charging a skater as you're likely to encounter. Admission to the Glory Bound demo is $10.
