Happy Birthday, US

It's the Fourth of July and you're in St. Louis, which means it's hot, humid and time to party. Get up early, get on the outside of a slinger and be at Fourteenth and Olive streets by 9:30 a.m. to witness the Veiled Prophet parade. The traditional kick-off for Fair Saint Louis is followed by three days of air shows (five of 'em this year), fireworks every night and a whole bunch of sweaty patriots. New this year is a visit from the Commemorative Air Force Red Tail Squadron and the RISE ABOVE Traveling Exhibit, which tells the amazing true story of the Tuskegee Airmen, the brave black men who fought for their right to become combat pilots, and who famously never lost a bomber they escorted over occupied Europe during WWII. It's an inspiring reminder that America just gets better as it gets older. Fair Saint Louis takes place under the Gateway Arch Thursday through Saturday (July 4 through 6). Admission is free, and more information is available at www.fairsaintlouis.org.
