Fragmented Photographs

Stitching together images to create a more intimate narrative, local artists Barclay Hughes and Matthew O’Shea combine, rearrange and morph photographs into an entirely different reality -- but the reality isn’t exactly far-fetched, as the dominant themes are disconnection and dislocation. Barclay Hughes & Matt O’Shea: Where Are You Now? consists of digital work that knows no bounds or limitations, using the freedom of technology to manipulate images in a smooth, free manner not possible with film. Though this is a collaborative show, both artists’ individual visions come through in the work, in lovely yet isolated scenes. The Duane Reed Gallery (4729 McPherson Avenue) will host the opening reception tonight from 5 to 8 p.m. The show runs through Saturday, March 31, Tuesday through Saturday, and admission is free.
