For too long, the holiday season has been dominated by one particular type of flora: the ever-present Christmas tree. And while the towering, bedazzled Scots pines and Balsam firs have their many charms, there are plenty of other members of the plant world that can impart some holiday cheer. Festive floral finery of all types will grace the rooms and parlors of the Historic Samuel Cupples House for the annual Holiday Rooms in Bloom display. The mansion (located at 3673 West Pine Mall in the middle of Saint Louis University's urban oasis) will be decked with seasonal plant life, and former Classic 99 (KFUO-FM) radio personality Tom Sudholt will flip the switch on the house's Christmas tree. The free event begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, December 9, and visitors are encouraged to donate new or used winter clothing items to benefit to the St. Francis Xavier College Church parish help center. The rooms in bloom remain on display 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday (December 10 through 12).
