Don’t Question the Duke

Oct 24, 2007 at 4:00 am
The Duke Bluebeard shows his new wife, Judith, his expansive castle. She thinks it’s too dark and wishes to let in a little light. Duke Bluebeard objects, but his bride wins the argument and begins opening doors. She finds a torture chamber, weapons, a secret garden – all stained with what appears to be blood. The Duke implores her to ask no questions and simply love him, but Judith presses on. What does she find in the other rooms? You’ll have to attend Union Avenue Opera’s three productions of Béla Bartók’s Duke Bluebeard’s Castle, at 8 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Wednesday (October 26, 27 and 31) at the Union Avenue Christian Church (733 North Union Boulevard; 314-361-2881 or www.unionavenueopera.org) to find out. Tickets for this mysterious and chilling one-act opera are $25.
