Dancing with Dunham

The legend lives on

In last week's Night & Day section, we offered up a brief overview of Katherine Dunham: Beyond the Dance, the new exhibition at the Missouri History Museum (Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue; 314-746-4599 or www.mohistory.org), and we mentioned that the museum would be hosting a variety of corresponding events throughout the show's run. This weekend, the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble from Denver will perform pieces choreographed by Dunham ("Ragtime" and "Barrel House Blues" among them) and some works inspired by her technique (including Alvin Ailey's "Escapades"), all of which will provide a wonderful, live, can't-miss accompaniment to the exhibition. The Katherine Dunham...She Lives! dance concert is presented at 7 p.m. on Saturday and at 3 p.m. on Sunday (November 8 and 9), and tickets cost $20 to $50 (admission to the exhibition costs $3 to $7).
