Dance on A Dime (Almost)

“Value” is an important word these days. People are trying to squeeze every last bit of fun out of each entertainment dollar they spend — trust us, we’re doing it, too — which is why the tenth annual St. Louis Dance Festival Showcase is so refreshing. During this weekend of dance at Washington University’s Edison Theatre (6445 Forsyth Boulevard), attendees can behold 33 local dance companies accompanied by live music — and the price to attend all three shows is $45. That’s less than a $1.50 per group! And did we mention that the ensembles will be performing everything from Indian dance to Flamenco and from modern to ballet? That’s a lot of bang for your buck (fifty)! The St. Louis Dance Festival Showcase is presented by Dances of India at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 8 p.m. on Sunday (May 8 through 10). Tickets for individual shows cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door through MetroTix at 314-534-1111 or www.metrotix.com (the aforementioned $15-per-show pricing is valid only when purchasing tickets for multiple nights).
