Most who read the touring field guide Our Band Could Be Your Life came to the same conclusion: Bands these days couldn't cut it in the pre-Internet '80s. The rare exception? Oxford, Mississippi's Colour Revolt. With tracks recalling Repeater-era Fugazi and a work ethic indebted to DIY warriors Minutemen, the band would likely thrive under such primitive conditions. The road is also an integral character in Colour Revolt's latest full-length, The Cradle. Written after three of the band's five members resigned owing to tour exhaustion, the album is as meaty as indie rock gets. Cradle funnels turmoil into triumph and defiantly proclaims that Colour Revolt cannot be stopped.
