Capturing Culture

Feb 23, 2012 at 4:00 am
Since Pop Art was neatly divorced from regular old popular culture, it’s become self-reflexive -- a Banksy stencil becomes a Banksy book for sale at Urban Outfitters, which inspires an ironic Banksy stencil of consumers buying said book. The very practice of grabbing what “pop” is and holding it up to the light requires increasing dexterity. The sharp minds at the University of Missouri-St. Louis' Gallery Visio (One University Boulevard; 314-516-7922 or www.umsl.edu/~visio) present its second foray into defining culture of the moment with Pop Manifesto 2. Co-produced by entrepreneurial art collective Made Monarchs, Pop Manifesto 2 opens with a free reception on Thursday, February 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. and runs through Thursday, March 22.
Mondays-Thursdays. Starts: Feb. 23. Continues through March 22, 2012
