Just a bounce-pass away from the NCAA men's basketball tourney at the Edward Jones Dome, Spring Bling '04 is sure to be, well, awesome, baby. "A high level of energy is being felt and talked about [in] cosmetology and fashion industries, and that energy is quickly moving to other areas of the St. Louis community," says David Christopher, a spokesman for BJM Productions, who, along with DH Entertainment, is hosting the event.
The Spring Bling '04 hoopla will include a hair fair -- or "hurr furr," depending on which part of the Lou you're from -- featuring hair-care products and services from national and local vendors, a fashion show and a performance by Grammy-nominated crooner Glenn Lewis.
A panel of cosmetology-industry professionals and St. Louis Rams players will judge and award prizes to Stylist and Barber of the Year. Then five male and five female cosmetology "diaper dandies" (that's "young phenom" for those not fluent in Dickie V-speak) will vie for Student of the Year honors by answering questions and demonstrating their clipping, braiding and weaving skills.
So if you want to see half-court sets and fade-away jump shots, sell your appendages for tickets to the Sweet 16. If you want to see straw sets and bald-fades, tickets for Spring Bling '04 cost $20 to $50. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Community Awareness and Rehabilitating Empowerment, which promotes health awareness among St. Louisans. Doors open at 8 p.m., but VIPs can arrive a half-hour early for an exclusive trunk show, complimentary happy hour and meet-and-greet with Mr. Lewis.
