For a memorable way to kill time in the middle of the day, there's no better place than Death in the Afternoon, the new downtown restaurant from the inventive minds behind Blood & Sand. The restaurant specializes in three things: lunch, brunch and drinks. The location at the edge of the scenic Citygarden provides an oasis-like setting in which to wine and dine. Lush greenery and sculptures make up the surroundings, and the glass building soaks up the soft, comforting rays of the sun like a sponge. A list of snacks starts the lunch menu with a host of items for sharing: Asian eggplant dip, chicharrones and housemade charcuterie, just to name a few. For something more filling, select from a list of plump sandwiches, ramen poached in heavenly broth or salads topped with flavorful components. Try not to get so distracted by the stellar eats and scenery that you forget to save room for dessert. The house cotton candy concludes the meal with a rush of whimsy to make that perfect lunch date complete.
