American Idiots

Sex, drugs and rock & roll are the cornerstones of a certain American lifestyle. It's the lifestyle that values "party" as a verb, conspicuous consumption and a bit of casual, effortless violence. So naturally writer/monologist Eric Bogosian found enough inspiration in the phrase to craft an incisive series of black-comedy monologues that strike at the hypocrisy inherent in both the lifestyle and the Americans who practice it. The Midnight Company, which specializes in producing interesting plays in unusual environments, presents Joe Hanrahan in Bogosian's Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll at Herbie's Vintage 72 (405 North Euclid Avenue; 314-487-5305 or www.midnightcompany.com). The show is performed at 8 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Sunday (August 1 through 17), with additional performances at 8 and 10 p.m. Saturday (August 9 and 16). Tickets are $15 to $20.
Fridays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 8 & 10 p.m. Starts: Aug. 1. Continues through Aug. 16, 2014
