When you're drinking in Ballpark Village, you'd best watch out for the mechanical bull.
A lawsuit filed yesterday against PBR St. Louis (601 Clark Avenue)
, which is part of the Ballpark Village entertainment district near Busch Stadium, alleges that a 50something Indiana woman suffered serious injuries after a collision with the bar's bull in April 2016.
Tamra Oliver of Evansville, Indiana, alleges in the suit that she was "knocked" by the bar's bull and "thrown into a fence." As a result, she claims, she "sustained serious and permanent personal injuries to her right cheek, left hand, jaw, right eye, eye socket and vision."
The suit claims the bar was negligent in failing to inform Oliver that the bull could be "engaged without notice." Oliver's husband also joined in the claim, saying he had suffered the loss of her consortium thanks to her wild ride.
A review of medical literature shows a host of ailments associated with riding mechanical bulls, to the point that one wiseacre coined the term "urban cowboy syndrome" to describe the injuries
. However, those injuries mostly involved being thrown from the bull after climbing on for a ride — not being knocked while approaching it.
